Well after going through 4000+ photos on my Pinterest, I can finally say I've officially prioritized the vision for our home design. I would highly recommend anyone designing their custom home to do this as well. I can't tell you how many architects and builders would roll their eyes at people sharing massive Pinterest galleries with them. There's something to be said about simplifying the design goals - not only does it help your team understand exactly what you're looking for, but it helps you articulate it and know what to fight for. There are infinite combinations of floor plans - prioritizing your list of design goals is the best way to stay on track throughout the design phase and not waste time.
With that said, I made a massive powerpoint with the overall house goals and the top images for each room. I'd like to give you some snips from the ppt to help you understand how to maybe better organize your thoughts and what you can present to your architect team.
Consolidating your wants all in one place also does help you to ask yourself "is this item a nice-to-have, or a must-have" so you can go in without freaking out your builder and architect haha. But also help put your foot down on the non-negotiables.
Below are how I organized my thoughts and some inspiration to help you define your home's goals:
From there, we also have detailed:
A slide explaining our lifestyle and planned uses of the home
An initial proposed floor plan I've worked on in the past
A map of our property with the best views, orientation, and elevation
A slide for each room's design goals
Top photos from Pinterest for that room
A list of the key design features for the room
There you have it! I finished all of this consolidating in one week. It was a rough week LOL but it was nice to power through it, and really fun to plan out the vision.
